LASIK Experience

I can't wait to lay on the grass and look up that beautiful sky free of glasses and the distortion that comes with them. I can't wait to see that with " natural vision " !

Why did you choose to have iLASIK, a refractive eye correction surgery ? What was the particular motivation that lead you to this ?

I had known about eye corrective surgery for years. The first one I had heard about was Radial Keratotomy.

When I first heard about LASIK, it sounded much more attractive than Keratotomy. The Keratotomy procedure sounded quite frightening. Although LASIK sounded much more attractive, the thought of having my eyes cut and burned by lasers was still unsettling. Nonetheless, the nuisance of wearing glasses was become more and more tedious. So, when I last got new lenses and glasses, I determined that it would be the last time for me. My lenses were beginning to wear out when one of my friends told me that he’d received iLASIK from your clinic. He raved about how nice it was to be free of glasses and how well he was treated at this clinic. This was the push I needed and shortly after our conversation, I contacted natural vision Takanawa Clinic for an evaluation.

Were you at all nervous about the operation ? Were you at all anxious the night before or immediately before the operation ?

I was actually quite excited ! I had been so frustrated with having glasses that I was quite excited to be free of them. I had no anxiety.

Before your operation you had 20/200 vision for both eyes. After the operation your vision improved to 20/10. Your vision without glasses is now clearer than when you were using corrective lenses. How did this improvement make you feel ?

Frankly, I wasn't terribly surprised by the improvement because I had expected that my vision would be corrected to 20/20. This had been the experience of my friends, and was the expectation that I had. I would have been quite disappointed if my corrected vision were anything less than 20/20. I was happily surprised when I was told that my corrected vision was better than 20/20. I had been told by doctors in the US and Canada that 20/20 is perfect vision, so I was quite pleased to know that my vision is better than " perfect " ! It's only been one week since the surgery, so the healing process isn't finished yet, so things still appear a bit fuzzy with halos around lights and such. I'm looking forward to seeing things more crisply soon.

Are there some things that you're looking forward to doing, or places that you would like to go to now that your vision is corrected ?

My mother lives in a very remote location in Canada. The night-time stars are a very beautiful sight to see. When I was there last summer I went out to look at the sky and was disappointed because of the glare caused by my lenses and the thought that I should be able to see things more clearly. I ended up taking off my glasses anyway so that I could get an unobstructed sight. I can't wait to lay on the grass and look up at that beautiful sky free of glasses and the distortion that comes with them. I can't wait to see that with “natural vision” !

I also really enjoy hiking and camping and I look forward to doing that without having to worry about caring for lenses. I also look forward to viewing the vista's with clearer vision.
Every December I take my family to Saipan or Guam. When I'm there I like to snorkel with my children. It is always a slightly frustrating experience because I can't snorkel with glasses, and without the glasses I can't see very well. So, I always feel like I'm missing a lot of the experience. Now that my vision is corrected, I'm really looking forward to this December's trip to see what I was missing !
