PRK(Photorefractive Keratectomy)

Excimer Laser vision correction, known medically as PRK, is a precise, minimally invasive method of reshaping the cornea. This reshaping of the cornea helps the eye to focus properly, thus, reducing or eliminating the need for eye glasses and contact lenses.

PRK is particularly suitable for those candidates who play boxing and any other types of martial arts, or those who have thin cornea so that LASIK is not suitable. To meet such patients’ needs, natural vision Takanawa Clinic uses state-of-the-art, computerized Excimer Lasers to gently remove a thin layer of tissue from the cornea’s surface, flattening the cornea to achieve the desired correction. The laser treatment itself takes approximately 20-30 seconds and is completely painless. During the 24-48 hours after the treatment, most patients will experience a gritty sensation in the eye as well as some discomfort but the patients will notice improved vision 3-5 days following the treatment.

LASEK (Laser Assisted Epithelial Keratomileusis)

LASEK is a relatively new variation of PRK, a procedure in which laser energy is applied directly to the eye’s outer surface for reshaping and vision correction. LASEK is used mostly for people with corneas that are too thin for LASIK, when it is difficult to create a thicker LASIK flap. LASEK procedure involves preserving the extremely thin epithelial layer by lifting it from the eye’s surface before laser energy is applied for reshaping. The laser treatment itself takes approximately 20-30 seconds and is completely painless. During the 24-48 hours after the treatment, most patients will experience a gritty sensation in the eye as well as some discomfort but the patients will notice improved vision 3-5 days following the treatment.
